The Following Problems Are Caused By a Stolen Catalytic Converter

You can count on Miller Brothers Auto Repair to help if your car, SUV, or truck’s catalytic converter has been stolen. You will know immediately that something isn’t right when you start the automobile. We would be happy to inspect the exhaust system for damage and replace the catalytic converter so your vehicle is whole once again. The following are problems related to a stolen catalytic converter.

Roaring Engine

There will be a marked difference in how your engine sounds once you turn the ignition key or press the start button. The engine will be extremely loud, and it will roar when you press down on the accelerator. You may think there is something wrong with the muffler, and there could be. This being said, a loud and roaring engine is also a sign that your vehicle no longer has a catalytic converter.

CEL Warning

You will also see that the check engine light is illuminated on your vehicle’s dashboard. Because the catalytic converter is missing, the exhaust is not being treated. Consequently, the combination of the missing exhaust system part and untreated exhaust will not find favor with the system sensors. They will notify the engine control module of problems and it will turn on the CEL.

Jerky Acceleration

A stolen catalytic converter will also cause the vehicle’s acceleration to become jerky and punchy. This is because the converter is not there to absorb the forceful push of the exhaust manifold. The manifold takes the exhaust created in the combustion chamber and forces it into the converter. This push is also the reason why the engine is roaring loudly, especially when you accelerate.

Slow-Speed Lag

In addition to punchy acceleration, the missing converter will cause problems with the engine’s production of low-end torque. Consequently, you will have sputtering engine performance when you are driving at slower speeds. In all honesty, it’s a better idea to have your vehicle towed to our shop rather than to drive it when the catalytic converter has been taken. Here’s the reason why.

Exhaust Inside

The exhaust manifold has no choice but to release the combustion chamber’s exhaust into the outside air because the catalytic converter is gone. The exhaust naturally rises and enters the passenger cabin. As such, you run a high risk of getting sick while driving your vehicle because you will inhale the exhaust.
