Keep Your Car’s Tires in Tiptop Shape By Doing the Following

Many people don’t think about their car’s tires until there’s a problem. Maintaining your tires is easy, and it’s worth it in the end because it helps prevent flat tires, uneven tire tread wear, and other tire and wheel issues. There are a couple of things you can do that won’t take up much of your time to make sure your vehicle’s tires are healthy. There are a few things we can do here at Miller Brothers Auto Repair, as well. Let’s talk about how you can keep your car’s tires in tiptop shape.

Air Check

Check the air in your tires every two weeks. One of the best ways to prevent premature and uneven tire tread wear is to always have your tires inflated to the recommended psi. Don’t overinflate your tires and don’t allow them to remain underinflated. Don’t forget to check your spare tire, as well. It will do you no good if you end up with a flat tire if you have a flat spare tire, too.

Inspection

Take a few moments to inspect each tire when you check the air pressure. Look for things that seem unusual, such as cracks in the sides of the tires or bubbling. Check the tire tread to make sure it is wearing down evenly. If it is lower in some places, you have patches of tread wear that indicate a problem with your tire rotation, wheel balance, or wheel alignment.

Tire Rotation

Rotating the tires every 6,000 miles ensures that they all receive the same pressure points. What we mean by this is how the tread presses down on the road on each wheel and how the brakes press against the tires on each wheel. If you fail to rotate your tires regularly, you’ll end up with uneven tire tread wear and you will not get the guaranteed miles out of the set of tires.

Wheel Balance

Out of balance wheels will vibrate and make loud noises the faster you go. Balancing the wheels makes certain that the axles are not dealing with uneven weight. It’s a good idea to have your wheels balanced when you have the tires rotated. This keeps the weight evenly across the axles and keeps your ride smooth and quiet. Unbalanced wheels will definitely chew up your tires.

Wheel Alignment

The same is true with wheel alignment. Misaligned wheels will also chew up the tires. The nice thing is you don’t need to have your wheels aligned except every two years and once you get a new set of tires. The only other time you would need to get them aligned would be if you knocked them out of alignment yourself.

Miller Brothers Auto Repair in Somerset, WI, would be happy to rotate your tires and balance and align the wheels. Call us today for an appointment.
